Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation

Job Details

Position Summary

The i-BRAIN Nanofabrication Facility at SMART is a world-class international facility supporting cutting-edge brain–computer interface (BCI) and neurotechnology research. We are seeking highly motivated Senior Engineers to join our team, with opportunities to lead one of four technical areas:

  1. Electron Beam Lithography (EBL)
  2. Deep Ultraviolet (DUV) Stepper Lithography – KrF
  3. Photolithography – Mask Aligner & Maskless Aligner
  4. Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) & Metrology

Senior Engineers will lead process development, tool operation, and user training in their specialization, while contributing to cross-functional support of facility operations. This role offers the chance to work at the frontier of nanofabrication, collaborating with scientists, clinicians, and industry partners to enable transformative BCI devices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Development & Optimization
    • Develop, optimize, and document fabrication processes within your specialization (EBL, DUV Stepper, Photolithography, or PVD/Metrology).
    • Support integration of processes for advanced devices (e.g., neural probes, biosensors).
    • Document workflows and maintain reproducibility.
  • Equipment Operation & Maintenance
    • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot core cleanroom tools in your specialization.
    • Perform preventive maintenance, coordinate with vendors, and ensure high tool uptime.
    • Assist in tool installation, commissioning, and upgrades.
  • User Training & Support
    • Train researchers and external users on safe and effective tool operation.
    • Provide process consultation and design-for-fabrication guidance.
    • Enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and cleanroom safety standards.
  • Collaboration & Facility Support
    • Work closely with fellow engineers across specializations to ensure smooth facility operations.
    • Contribute to interdisciplinary projects, publications, and patents.
    • Monitor infrastructure systems (CDA, UPW, PCW, vacuum, exhaust) and support cleanroom compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics/Applied Physics, Metrology, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in cleanroom environments, with demonstrated expertise in at least one area of specialization (EBL, DUV Stepper, Photolithography, or PVD/Metrology).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills; ability to write SOPs and technical reports.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Mandarin is strongly preferred.
  • Strong teamwork orientation in an international, multidisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field.
  • Direct experience with advanced lithography (EBL or DUV Stepper) or deposition/metrology systems.
  • Prior experience in semiconductor fabs, national labs, or shared university facilities.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom infrastructure systems (vacuum, UPW, CDA, gas delivery, PCW).
  • Ability to interpret technical schematics, service manuals, and equipment diagrams.

Why Join Us?

  • Mission-driven impact – Your expertise will directly contribute to the development of transformative brain–computer interfaces and medical devices.
  • Cutting-edge tools – Operate and innovate with state-of-the-art lithography, deposition, and metrology systems.
  • Global collaboration – Join an international team shaping the future of neurotechnology.
  • Career growth – Develop as a domain expert while contributing to cross-disciplinary science and commercialization.
