City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) (CityUHK (Dongguan)) is a jointly established university, fully backed by the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). CityUHK (Dongguan) received official approval for its establishment in April 2024 and successfully began recruiting high-caliber students the same year.

CityUHK (Dongguan) upholds CityUHK’s philosophy of “Integration of Teaching and Research” and its forward-looking vision of “Innovating into the Future,” ensuring that its academic standards align with those of CityUHK. Currently, the University has been approved to offer 7 undergraduate programs and 15 postgraduate programs. Aligning with world-class university standards, CityUHK (Dongguan) has now launched a global recruitment campaign for faculty members, with key  priorities in the following fields:

1. Computer Science and Data Science

This field encompasses Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and related interdisciplinary areas, with a focus on computing technologies, software development, algorithm design, and data applications.

Discipline, including, but not limited to:

Computer Science and Technology, Cyberspace Security, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Data Computation and Applications, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence.

2. Intelligent Manufacturing and Systems Engineering

Building upon the opportunities presented by “Industry 4.0” and “Smart City” initiatives, this field integrates automation, robotics, advanced manufacturing, integrated circuit technology, industrial engineering, complex systems modeling and optimization, and project management. It is dedicated to driving industrial intelligence upgrading and sustainable urban development.

Discipline, including, but not limited to:

Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, Intelligent Semiconductor Manufacturing, and Engineering Management.

3. Electronic Engineering

Aspiring to be a global leader in electrical engineering education and research, this field promotes the application of cutting-edge technologies in industry and facilitates technological innovation and knowledge transfer.

Discipline, including, but not limited to:

Electronic and Information Engineering, Computer and Data Engineering,  Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering, Microelectronics Engineering, Multimedia Information Technology.

4. Biomedical Engineering

Focusing on biomedical systems, medical robotics, imaging, bio-MEMS, and nanomedicine, this field is committed to developing advanced biomedical devices, systems, and solutions for the benefit of society.

Biomedical Engineering.

5. Materials Science

Centered on material design, fabrication, and application, this field engages in fundamental research and frontier applications of new materials, covering the complete chain from microscopic nanostructures to macroscopic performance optimization.

Materials Science and Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Nanotechnology.

6. Business and Finance

Aimed at nurturing the next generation of business leaders, this field equips students with the strategic insight, business analytics and decision-making, innovative thinking, actionable insights, and strategic solution capabilities required to excel in a data-driven economy.

Discipline, including, but not limited to:

Business Information Systems, Venture Creation, Business and Data Analytics, Financial Engineering.

7. Smart Energy

Dedicated to addressing and solving the pressing energy challenges and related environmental issues of modern society through innovative solutions.

Discipline, including, but not limited to:

Energy and Power Engineering, Energy and Environment.

The University invites individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply for faculty positions at the levels of Professor and Associate Professor in the aforementioned fields. The primary language of instruction and administration at CityUHK (Dongguan) is English.

Major Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Deliver exceptional education, both independently and collaboratively, for undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
  • Achieve international recognition and demonstrate leadership in their respective fields through outstanding research;
  • Contribute to administrative tasks, ensuring efficient operations and supporting the advancement of the University’s mission (applicable to senior faculty);
  • Proactively secure external funding for research projects, promoting technological innovation; 
  • Provide exemplary supervision for student projects, internships, and theses, guiding them towards academic excellence.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in the relevant field. A strong track record in independent research, teaching, student supervision, and service is highly desirable. Candidates who have recently obtained their PhD with exceptional achievements may also be considered.

For the positions of Chair Professor, applicants should:

  • Demonstrate a record of world-class academic accomplishments and reputable international academic leadership;
  • Possess extensive experience in teaching, student supervision, and securing research project funding;
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish a distinguished research programme aligned with the University’s strategic research areas;
  • Commit to delivering high-quality teaching and supervision to a diverse student population at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
