Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Hyderabad
Job Details
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR/TIFRH) invites applications for faculty positions in the Advanced Research Unit on Metabolism, Development & Aging (ARUMDA) under its ongoing faculty search in the field of biological and life sciences (ADVT. NO. 2026/1).
We seek applications from exceptional scientists with postdoctoral research experience and a record of innovative, high-impact research. For clinician-scientists, research/field experience in the public health domain will be considered equivalent to formal post-doctoral tenure. Suitable candidates will be recruited for tenure-track positions at the level of Reader-F/Assistant Professor, whereas candidates with proven research leadership and experience would have opportunities for tenured appointments at the Associate Professor or Professor levels.
Applications are invited in the following key areas:
1. Systemic Metabolism: Candidates with a strong publication track record in the field of systemic metabolism, including in humans, with core technical expertise in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and/or isotope analyses and/or metabolic flux measurements are encouraged to apply. The person should have interests in clinical and/or pre-clinical domains of metabolism & disease.
2. Epidemiology or Public Health or Community Medicine: Candidates with a strong publication track record and domain expertise in public health and/or community health and/or epidemiology, including observational and interventional cohorts, are encouraged to apply. The person should have broad interests in malnutrition, women and child health or diet-dependent non-communicable diseases.
3. Data analytics: Candidates with a strong publication track record in building predictive models, multi-omics projections of physiological outputs, etc., with core technical expertise in statistical methods and/or large data analyses and/or AI-ML are encouraged to apply. The person should have future interests in data analyses, viz. epidemiological, clinical, molecular or multi-omics in relation to diet-dependent physiological manifestations across life-history from observational and interventional cohorts.
4. Adipose biology: Candidates with a strong publication track record and domain expertise in adipose biology vis-à-vis clinical and/or physiological and/or molecular outcomes are encouraged to apply. The person should have interests in obesity and adipose tissue physiology in relation to either malnutrition and/or diet-dependent non-communicable diseases.
5. Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD): Candidates with a strong publication track record and domain expertise in development and/or metabolism and/or aging are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a focus on understanding Developmental Origins of Health and Disease using pre-clinical and/or clinical cohorts, with an interest in elucidating how early-life exposures, including nutritional, environmental, and metabolic factors, shape physiological trajectories and disease risk across the lifespan. Experience in leveraging longitudinal human cohorts and/or relevant pre-clinical models to investigate mechanisms underlying growth, body composition, metabolic health, and chronic disease susceptibility will be highly valued. Candidates integrating multi-omics approaches, biomarker discovery, or systems biology frameworks in DOHaD research are particularly encouraged.
Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field.
- For early-career (Assistant Professor/Reader) positions: A strong postdoctoral record or field/work experience with evidence of innovative, high-impact research.
- For clinician-scientists, research experience in the public health domain will be considered equivalent to formal postdoctoral tenure.
- For senior (Associate/Full Professor) positions: A distinguished publication record, proven global leadership, and a sustained history of external funding.
The candidates should possess the ability to develop a vibrant, externally funded research program and have a commitment to mentoring students. Once selected, they are expected to establish globally competitive research programs aligned with ARUMDA’s mandate and also participate in its mission-mode projects.
The application package should contain a CV, a detailed future research proposal, the names and contact details of research mentors, names and contact details of 6 independent experts in the field who will provide reference letters and a list of 5 best publications.
Applications should be sent to [email protected] and [email protected]
* All other terms mentioned in the advertisement will be applicable (ADVT. NO. 2026/1).
*ARUMDA (Advanced Research Unit on Metabolism, Development and Aging) is a pan-TIFR initiative, which is aligned with national and global missions to tackle the metabolic diseases across the life-course and accelerated aging. It is missioned to carry out cutting-edge research across pre-clinical and clinical domains with a focus on addressing double and triple burdens of malnutrition, developmental deficits, metabolic syndromes, non-communicable diseases and aging. The unit integrates metabolism, development, and aging research to advance discovery and translational science.
