National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan (located in Hsinchu – the heart of Taiwan’s science and tech hub)
Job Summary
The Department of Physics and Institute of Astronomy at National Tsing Hua University invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher, with appointments starting in February or August 2026. We are particularly interested in candidates specializing in quantum computing, experimental particle physics, or Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics, though exceptional applicants from all related areas are encouraged to apply.
About the Department
National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), one of Taiwan’s premier research institutions, consistently ranks within the top 85 globally according to QS subject rankings. The Department of Physics and Institute of Astronomy at NTHU hosts more than 50 distinguished faculty members conducting cutting-edge theoretical and experimental research. Our department is home to a government-funded Center for Quantum Science and Technology, emphasizing our commitment to innovative and impactful research.
We provide comprehensive undergraduate tracks in Physics, Optics and Photonics, and Astrophysics, along with advanced graduate programs in Physics, Applied Physics, and Optical Physics, preparing students to excel at the forefront of science and technology.
Research areas include:
- Experimental and Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics: strongly correlated systems, spintronics, nanodevices, ultrafast and nonlinear optics, surface physics, high-temperature superconductivity, soft matter, synchrotron applications.
- Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics: Quantum metrology, quantum optics, precision laser spectroscopy, Quantum Gas.
- Plasma Physics: electron cyclotron masers, high-power sub-THz sources.
- Astrophysics: solar physics, star and planet formation, compact objects, high-energy astrophysics.
- Experimental and Theoretical Particle Physics: supersymmetric particles, CP violation, neutrino physics, extra dimensions, particle astrophysics, and cosmology.
The department is committed to advancing interdisciplinary research and international collaboration, with ongoing developments in quantum optics, nanoscience, computational physics, and soft matter. We also maintain a close partnership with the Institute of Photonics Technologies at our university.
In addition, the Center for Quantum Technology, established in 2018 at National Tsing Hua University, integrates experts and technologies in quantum materials and quantum information from across departments, colleges, and institutions in Taiwan. With strong international collaborations, the center leads efforts to develop key technologies for the forthcoming second quantum revolution. By leveraging the department’s strengths in quantum systems based on cold atoms and photons, alongside cutting-edge achievements in solid-state quantum materials, the center aims to create highly applicable platforms for quantum computing and quantum communication.
