Tenure-track Faculty Positions in Theoretical or Experimental Physics at Institute of Physics, UNAM

Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México - Institute of Physics

The Institute of Physics at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) is seeking outstanding candidates for Tenure-Track Faculty Positions (equivalent to the UNAM categories of Investigador Asociado “C” or Investigador Titular “A”), depending on experience and skills, for projects in Theoretical or Experimental Physics.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Hold a PhD and have a solid background in Physics or a related field.
  2. Have at least two years of postdoctoral experience.
  3. Preferably, be under 39 years of age for women, and under 37 for men before taking the position.
  4. Have demonstrable experience and scientific achievements in one or more of the following research areas:
  •  High-energy physics, including: particle physics, cosmology, astroparticles, quantum field theory, and nuclear physics.
  •  Quantum physics and optics, including: quantum information, quantum technologies, foundations of quantum mechanics, atomic and molecular physics, and nonlinear optics.
  •  Nanosciences and condensed matter, including: physical and chemical properties of clusters and nanoparticles, and soft matter.
  •  Applied physics and interdisciplinary topics, including: medical physics and complex systems.

Applications involving the use of Artificial Intelligence techniques to develop the aforementioned research areas will also be considered.

Selection Criteria

The main selection criteria will consider:

  1. The academic achievements of the candidates according to the categories of (full-time) Associate Researcher “C” or Titular Researcher “A” at UNAM.
  2. Their potential to carry out frontier research independently, demonstrated by published papers of high quality with original contributions.
  3. Their research project proposal.
  4. Their ability to actively participate in teaching physics at undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as in training highly qualified personnel through the supervision of undergraduate and graduate (research) theses.
  5. The candidate’s performance in research tasks, as evaluated by at least three references who are familiar with their work, expressed in letters of recommendation.

The selected candidates are expected to complement and expand existing research lines at the Institute of Physics.
