Professor in General Psychology and Computational Modeling

Otto-von-Guericke-Universität

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is an internationally oriented and

regionally networked university with a strong research profile.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg

invites applications for the position of a

Professor in General Psychology and Computational Modeling

(Open Rank W1/W2 with Tenure Track to W3)

The successful candidate should have a research focus on general psychology (e. g. perception, memory, attention, cognitive control, decision making) documented by excellent publications and success in third-party funding. Due to the open-rank procedure, the requirement profile varies: we either expect first outstanding publications and first successes in competitive third-party funding acquisition or we request an internationally recognized research profile and consistent successes in competitive third-party funding acquisition. The applicant’s research focus should always fit in with the cognitive-neuroscientific focus of the Institute of Psychology and strengthen it in the area of mathematical modeling of general psychological processes. The professorship will be integrated into the dynamic neuroscience community of Magdeburg, which, in addition to the Institute of Psychology, includes other departments of the Faculties of Natural Sciences and Medicine, the Leibniz Institute of Neurobiology and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, which interact in the Center for Behavioral Brain Sciences (www.cbbs.eu). Collaboration with the Central German site of the German Center for Mental Health Halle-Jena-Magdeburg (www.c-i-r-c.de) is possible. Furthermore, links to one or more of the neuroscience-oriented research networks in Magdeburg (CRC1436 – Neural Resources of Cognition, Center for Behavioral Brain Sciences, GRK2413 – The Aging Synapse) are expected.

In addition, we require expertise in the application of mathematical models and modern experimental psychological methods (eye-tracking, EEG, fMRI, etc.) for the characterization of perceptual and cognitive processes. Participation in scientific teaching activities in the polyvalent B.Sc. Psychology and the Institute’s Master’s programs is expected.

A prerequisite for the appointment is a doctorate in psychology or a related subject in accordance with § 40 HSG-LSA and potentially a habilitation in psychology or an equivalent achievement. The position is initially limited in time. After a positive interim evaluation (W1), the position will be extended for a further three years in accordance with § 41 Abs. 1 HSG LSA. In the event of a positive final evaluation (W1 or W2), the candidate will be taken on as a permanent civil servant or employee (W3). Further details can be found in the regulations on the organization of appointments with tenure track (Ordnung zur Ausgestaltung von Berufungen mit Tenure-Track).

Applications from severely disabled people or people with an equivalent impairment will be given priority in the case of equal suitability, ability and professional expertise.
